In this seas on, the show wen t back to airing one new episode a week, b ut stayed in the hour-len gth format, filling up the second half-hou r with episodes f rom previou s seasons and some of the pr ime- time specia ls fro m th e 1980s. This en tire season, along with the seco nd half of season 6, is avai lable on Garfield and F riends Volume 5 DVD set. Al so worth no ting is that here, a new the me song wa s added that was written by J.R. Johns ton and Neil Pan ton. The theme was sung by J.R. Johnston. Thi s theme song was not shown in terna tionally, and as a result, it doe s not app ear on the DVDs (although Garf ield's quotations are kep t intact). This new intro duction se quence us ed most clips from Seasons 5-7 and a few from the firs t two seas ons, as w ell as Garfield in Pa radise and Garfie ld's Feline Fantas ies.
