In t his season, the s how we nt back to airing one new episode a week, b ut stayed in t he ho ur-length fo rmat , filling u p the second half-hour with e pisodes fr om prev ious season s and some of the p rime -time specials from the 198 0s. This entire season, along with the second half of season 6, is available on Garf ield and Fri ends Vo lume 5 DVD set. Also worth noting is that here, a new theme son g was added that was wr itten by J.R . Johnston and Nei l Panton. The theme was sung by J.R. J ohnston. This theme song was not sh own internationally, and as a res ult, i t does not appear on the DV Ds (althoug h Garfield's q uotation s are kept inta ct). This new introduction sequen ce used most clips from Seasons 5-7 and a few fr om the f irst two seasons, a s well as Garfie ld in Paradise and G arfield's F eline Fantasies.
