In this season, the show went ba ck to airing one new episode a week, b ut stayed in the hour- leng th format, fillin g up the second half-hour with e piso des from pre vious seasons and s ome of th e pri me-time specials from the 1980s. This entire season, along with the second half of season 6, is available on Garfield and Frie nds V olume 5 DVD set. Also worth noting is that here, a new theme so ng was added tha t was writ ten by J.R. Johnston and Neil Panton. The theme was sung by J.R. Johnston. This theme song was not shown interna tionally, an d as a res ult, it does not appear on the DVDs (although Garfield's quotatio ns are kept intac t). This ne w introducti on sequence used most cl ips from Seasons 5-7 a nd a few from the f irst t wo seasons, as well a s Garfield in Par adise and Garfield's Feline Fantasies.
