Review: James reviews the new Bentley Continental GT, and notes the new engine and subtle ride characteristics. Believing that the Ben tley, with fou r wheel drive system and a big, powerful engine, can handle things worse than a Welsh countrysi de road , James takes the car onto a Welsh stage of the Wo rld Rally Championship, with Kr is Meeke be hind the whe el, an d James b eing the co -driver. All of the dragons decla re themselves "out& quot; and back in the studio, Richard concludes that for the P45 to be pu t in production, Je remy would have t o be dead. 149 Series 19, Episode 2 3 February 201 3 Mick Fle etwood C hallenge , Part 1: In another challenge, the presenters picked three super cars t o take on an epic race. Since it was Hammond& #39;s turn to select the cha llenge location, the team went to the Wes tern U nited States . Jeremy se lecte d the Lexus LFA, James chose the new Asto n Martin Vanqu ish, and Richard took the SRT Vi per. After a bri ef dri ve in the Nevada d esert, the trio headed to Las Vegas Motor Speedwa y, specifically the dra g strip, to compete in drag races orga nized by the Las Veg as Po lice Department; whom organized it with the theory that allowing people to drag race, legally, a t a closed circuit, would prevent street racing. Desp ite the high p erformance of their cars, the tr io were beaten by modifi ed production cars, and 4WD cars, in eac h of their drag races. New s: Jeremy comes up with a solution on how to so lve the c risis affecting Britain39;s town centres: sac king all traffic wa rdens a nd removi ng doubl e yellow lines. The trio th en revi ew a C hinese product designed to stop drowsiness behind the wheel, before they took a first l ook at the 2013 Jaguar F-Ty pe. They praised its styling, but criticized its high price tag of £60,000, as well as its ta rget audien ce. James mentions Peugeot Citro en's car intende d to run on compresse d air; Jeremy attemp ted to use a fire exting uisher to demonstrate, but fail ed after only c ausing himse lf to turn slowly around. Chall enge, Pa rt 2.: After leaving Las Vegas, Jame s and Richard make fun of J eremy 9;s LFA for lacking not on ly Bluetooth conn ection and iPod connectors, but cup holders , despite bei ng the most e xpensive car. The y are then tasked to head to Willo w Springs Intern ational Motorsport s Park, but they instead stop on a grooved roa d, where each car drives over the grooves and produc es not es. Whe n they reach Willow Springs, they are forced to play an aerial version of Laser Ques t, where they would drive 5 laps aroun d the track, whilst being chas ed by two Ae rmacchi SF.260 armed with laser guns. In the end, James won the chal lenge by being h it only 17 times. Star in a Reasonab ly Price d Car: Fleetwood Mac 9;s Mick Fleetwood drov e the Kia Cee'd around the Test Track with a lap of 1:45.4 . Challe nge, Part 3: Departing Willow S prings, the group headed for Los Angeles, California. In order to do "real world" ; testing, R ichard devised a c hallenge to see who co uld burn the best elevens. The three in stead ended up drawing a ph allus and left LA. The tea m then stayed for a nigh t in Palm Springs. Howeve r, t he produ cers g ave them a final ch alle nge. The three would drive from Palm Springs to the Mexi can border at Calexico the following morning, and the las t to make it to the M exican border would ha ve to travel into the country i tself to dri ve the Mastretta MXT, a Mex ican sports car made fun of by th e presenters in an ea rlier s eries, fo r a later segmen t on the show. In revenge for taki ng them to A merica, Jeremy a nd James sabotage d Hammond's Viper, causing him to lose 1 0 minutes in the race. Despite maki ng a stop for fuel , Jeremy ma de i t to the finish li ne fi rst, with James in se cond. Ric hard then walked to th e border b eing the last person to arrive. At t he studio, James and Jerem y end by saying that th e Viper was awful and that the Vanquish and LFA were am azing. 150 Series 1 9, Episode 3 10 Febru ary 2013 Amy Macdonal d Review: Je remy reviews the To yota GT86 and t he Suba ru BRZ. The cars ar e almost identical, but Jeremy p refers the Toyot a GT86. The Stig then compl eted a lap of the Test Track in 1:31:3. News: They discuss the new Subaru Impreza, which is not c oming to UK, and they then talk ab out the new Maserati Quattroporte. C hallenge, P art 1: T he producers have reserved a single ticket to a football match at t he San Siro in Milan, Northern Ital y. The trio have a race from Wembley Sta dium to t he San Sir o. Jerem y drives t he Shelby Mustang GT500 and Richard and James t ravel on pu blic t ransport. Similar to the p revi ous race to Mo nte Carlo, R ichard and James are not allo wed to us e any cars, and Jeremy is not allowed to use a ny trains. According to Je remy, since the last epic race , the trains have become faster and boats h ave b ecome slower. Rich ard and James ope ned up a big lead wh ilst travelling o n the Eurostar, and arrive in Paris while Jeremy was stil l crossing the English Channel on a fer ry. After rea ching France, Jeremy discov ers that the Mustang only holds 50 litres in its f uel tank. After leaving Paris, Richard and James discuss wha t to do upon arriving in Milan — as th ere are two of them but on ly one tic ket. Hundr eds of miles behi nd, Jeremy ends p art 1 of the challenge s tating out loud, &quo t;I' ;m gonna lose!" Star in a R easonably Priced Car: Amy M acdonald dr ove the Kia Cee'd a round t he Test Track in 1:44.4. During one o f her practice runs, Amy accidentally destroye d one of the runway lights, which Jeremy gives to her af ter revealing t he lap time. Challe nge, Part 2: The high speed TGV slo wed down as it approached the m ountains t hat surro und Northern Ital y. Jeremy began to catch up and was nearly nec k and neck wit h the train, until road works at the Mo nt Blanc Tunnel slow him down. T he train starts t o accel erate again and reach es Nor thern Italy ahead of Jeremy. Richar d and Ja mes use a tub e network t o get to the st reets near the finish line. James maintains his opposi tion to ru n on television and Richard runs off alone to find the fin ish l ine, which is at a bar in the IM V illa Veuve Cliequot. James then assembled a bike which he had hid den in one of his bags and rides to the bar, only to find that Richard is already there and h as won the race and the ticket to the football match. Mome nts later, J erem y arrived and accepte d defeat for the first time ever in an epic race o f all the series. 151 Series 19, Episode 4 17 February 2013 Lewis Ha milto n Review: Jeremy reviews the Vauxhall Astra VXR, Ford Focus S T and Renault Megane Renault Sport Cup. The S tig did laps of each car, the Focu s being th e slo west at 1:29 .6, the Astra VXR at 1:28.3, and the Megane i n 1:27.7. Despite this, Jeremy chose the Astra VXR as the best overall ca r of the t hree. News: They disc uss th e newest cars, such as the Alfa Romeo 4C , the next gen eration Ford Mustang would be sold in Great Britain, but the UK version would c ome with a 2.0 EcoBoost engi ne, an d the im porta nce of the handb rake turn in "male developme nt". Review: Jeremy tests the all new Kia Cee' ;d, pu tting it t hrough a myriad of strange road tests. Including Matt L eBlanc doing a lap with both the old and n ew Cee 39;d, Bruce Willis (in ch aracter as John McClane) testing the horn of the Cee';d, Eric Clapton testing it s auxiliar y input ja ck, and Jer emy tes ting the C ee 9;d's self parallel parking feature. Jeremy demonstrates the complexity of modern car s' dshboard. Richard brings a Fiat Multipla and both mo dify i t. Jeremy b reaks the dashboar d and replac es it cons idering i t to be too c omplicate d for elders. Richa rd asks for the airbags saying that it is dangero us for the elderly who are as del icate as children, and that he need s it for a safety feature. Jeremy mak es a speed ometer wh ich reads 20 mph at the top speed, he als o uses an ol d desi gn switch for rear fog light w hich does nothi ng. Jeremy insta lls a pet- cage and repl aces the b ack seat with high seat chairs a nd the Fiat badge with a Rover one. They paint it in beige after observing the shad e of a hearing aid. Richard uses water-resistan t fabric as seat covers, and while stitch ing hurts his eye. They complete th e car and end the part 1 with Richard wear ing he avy bandages over his left eye. News: V olkswagen will la unch G TI version of the new Go lf an d GT versi on of Up will be launched. Kia w ill launch t he Pro C ee'd G T. T he Mini Pac eman is launched, and t he trio mock the front end of the car, claimin g that it looks depre ssing. The trio agree that the British are the best driver s. Alfa-R omeo rel eases ph otographs of the Gloria, i n which the trio make fun of it9;s name. Rich ard had arrived late so James and Jer emy had attempted to play t ennis with car s (whi ch has a lot o f editing). Review: James re views the new Range Rover in London. The new car is compl etely r edesigned, 400 kg lig hter due t o Aluminiu m body, has active s uspension, n ew gearbox, minimalist da shboard and offers bette r comfort. James then races it against TerraMax a t Nevada Automotive Test Centre, N evada. The race was to a hill 10 m ile across, pass ing thr ough r ocky te rrain, hillock, mud, river and sand-tracks. TerraMax was switched to drone mode durin g the race to defla te the tyres and take a short-cut. The Range Rover 39;s automatic Te rrain Response System is demonstrat ed. James takes a longer route to ascend the hil l but still wins the race. A t the s tudio, th e tr io consi der the dri verless cars to be not very pr actical. Star In A Reasonably Pr iced Car: James McAvoy drove th e Kia Cee'd around the Test Track w ith a lap of 1:43.6 despite hav ing less experie nce of driv ing c ars. He d rove over g rassy patch in the last cor ner but manages to keep the car under cont rol. Challenge, Part 2 : Jeremy and Richard roa d-test their car at Christchurch , Dorset. The car has large front bumpers made up of foam , large rear -view mirro rs, squeaking ball under the brake-pedal, large magn ifying-glas s on the das hboard , sat nav (voiced by Richard Briers) with only four destinatons. The car has an artifici al cat on the roof whi ch later fe ll o ver on the way of Bingo hal l. Richard later shows his system to find the location of pa rked car (the car activa tes a fla re and then release s a balloon). Jeremy shows that the radi o only pla ys Horse of the Year Show theme on a loop , which both later find to be irresistible to clap alo ng. The name of the car is revealed t o be The Jame s. They pick up three elderly ladies from a pensioners& #39; home for road-testi ng and drive the m to a bowling club where it is shown that Richa rd fi tted the airbag at the rear for parking assi st wh ich inflates the airbag on close proximity. Je remy and Richard buy food fo r picnic, choosing only Briti sh f oods. Th ey a ttach the shopping tro lley to Tow hitch and head for picnic. The roof of the car leaks as it ra ins. Jere my and Rich ard end up choosin g a picnic spot on roadside where they find the trolley to be damaged during reversing and the food to be soaked , however they ate the food w hich was not ruined . The ne xt day b oth leav e Christchu rch an d Jere my shows his system to prevent the car from bei ng driven on the wrong side of the r oad, the car i nitially sounds ala rm and l ater the tyr es, doors and other parts of the car exp lode which s tops the car an d renders it immobile . The e pisode was shot in 20 12. Cha llenge, Part 1: Buy u sed estate cars f or up to £1,500 in Britain and report at a small village in rural Uganda. Jeremy arrives in a BMW 528i Touring, Richard in a Subaru Impreza WRX Esta te and James in a Vol vo 850R Wagon . The challenge is to find the true so urce of the riv er Nile. They set off an discove r that exploring isn& #39;t as di fficult as first t hought when they go on a nic e easy dri ve and fi nd Lake V ictoria, of whom the Victorian Explorers thou ght was the sour ce o f the Nile. However they are t hen told that it is not the actual source of the Nile and there wer e two other dispu ted l ocati ons for it , one in Rw anda and one in Burundi. However , Jeremy Clarkson insiste d that both of these locati ons were wrong and decid ed to head west t owards Lake Edward to se e wheth er ther e was a lin k between that lake and Lake Kivu in Rwanda. In t heir jo urney west, w here they visit the Entebbe Airport and from ther e see the Ford Scorpio Estate back-up car. They contin ue into K ampala, Uganda's Capi tal City where they get held up in a traffic jam ove rnight, the most hurrendous traff ic they' ;d ever seen . They continue on well-maintained highways west fi nding thei r trip incredibly easy before reaching the town of Mbarar a in the southwest of the cou ntry, via a stop in Jezza , a village in M pigi Distr ict. Here they st ay in a disgusting hotel, after driving thr ough tea plantation s in an attempt to discover a lovely teah ouse hotel, which in the mind o f Richard , was bound to found du e to tea program mes he';d seen. In Mbarara they stay ed in the Economic Lodge with Jere my havi ng a bed with faece s on it. Th ey left the hotel d isgusted befo re Richard has the idea to make the cars 'hotels39;. James modi fies his Volvo by addin g a lib rary, Richa rd adds a cooker and Jeremy adds a cof fin. The cof fin he uses to put his clothes in, he slee ps on Egypt ian Cotton. They lea ve for Lake E dward, camp ing overnight there because of its beau ty before heading in search of the river head ing for Lake Kivu. None of the rivers conne ct the l ake as they all head east ra ther than so uth. They give up, leaving them disappointed. Then Jeremy lo oks at a m ap a nd dis covers the sourc e of the Nil e must be on the other side of Lake Victoria . His reason ing is th at th e Mediterr anean S ea is eff ectiv ely an inl and sea and so Gi braltar is the true mouth of the Nile, rather t han Alexan dria in Egyp t. After disco vering this they decide that they must drive straight to t he other side of Lake Vi ctoria to ge t to the sou theast coast in Tanzan ia near t he Serengeti.
