Ferna ndo Di L eo's & quot;Milano Calibro 9&q uot; is an out-and-out masterpiece of Ital ian Crime cin ema and, in my opinion , on e of the most astonishi ng crime sto ries ev er to ld. The first film i n Di Leo's excellent 'Milieu 39; trilogy, "Mila no Calibro 9" was f ollowed by "La Mal a Ordina" (aka. "Ma nhunt ", also 1972) and the bril liant &qu ot;Il Boss" (1973). The three fi lms are not connected stor y-wise , but all t hree are exc elle nt, and highly realis tic port rayals of organized crime. As far as I am conc erned &quo t;Man hunt&quo t; is (allth ough excellent) s lightly i nferio r to this one a nd " ;Il Boss&quo t; which both stand out as absol ute all- time highlights of crime cinema. "Milano Calibro 9" i s the be st of them all, a film t hat is astonishing in all aspects, be i t the ingenious plo t tha t, apart fro m a compelli ng story and clever twists, incl udes social criti cism, the performan ces, th e gritty atmosphere and sus pense or the b rilliant score . I can hardly find the right words to expre ss my ad mirat ion for t his ma sterpiece whic h easily ran ks among the greatest Gangster flicks ever brought to scre en.
Gasto ne Moschin stars as Ugo Piazza, a tough and elliptic al ex-conv ict who h as just been releas ed from prison. Imme diately after his release, Ugo is approac hed by m embers of the Milan mob lead by the ira scible ga ngster Rocco (Mario Adorf), as they sus pect him to be r esponsi ble for the disappearance of a larg e sum of mon ey belongi ng to their boss, an American (Lionel Stander) who controls the organized crime in Milan...
& quot;Milano Calibro 9" is a film that delivers an as toni shing ly realistic moo d of the underworld like ha rdly another . The intri guing storyline goes in ha nd with inter esting char acters, raw atmosphere, suspe nse and brea thtaking action , social cri ticism an d brutal violence. T he film is simply st unning fr om the beginning to the end, which is even int ensified by the brilliant score, a colla bora tion of th e famous composer Luis Enr íquez Ba calov and the Italian Pr ogressive Rock band Osann a. Ugo Pi azza must be one of the most charismatic g angster characters ever in c inema, and Gastone Mos chin was the prefect choice for the role. Mo schin deli vers a brilliant pe rforma nce, and the rest of the cast is also great. Mario Ad orf is irascible li ke a rabid dog as the ferocious gan gster Rocco, a role that fits him lik e a glov e. The great Lionel Stand er fits perfectl y in his role of the American Mafi a Don.
The tw o cop cha racter s in the film are playe d by two of the g reatest re gulars of It alian gen re-cinema, Luigi Pistilli a nd Frank Wolff ( who committe d suicide before the film was releas ed). The ravis hing Barbara Bo uchet is as tonis hing and incredibl y sexy in the role of Ugo Piazz a's stripper girlfriend. Bouch et is both a stunning beauty and an excelle nt actress and th is is doub tlessl y one of her most memorable role s. This i s also a political film an d director Di Leo embedded a lot of social criticism abo ut topics like corrupt ion. This film simply h as everything one can possibly des ire in c inema. Films like " Milano Calib ro 9&qu ot; are the reason why I love cinema . This is an absolu te masterpiec e in all regards and, without exaggeration, one of the greatest Crime flicks ever made! T he ingeni ous opening scene alone is m ore memorable than most films get in two hours. 从师父那里,听过很 多故事的卫九锡看了眼正在上香的人 ,就接着八卦道:“我 师父说,八臂神猿的地宫下,压的是万生魔神, 那位魔神能够分神万千,但有任 何一个分神在外, 他都不可能 死。所以,镇他之人,必须 是个意志坚定,认 了死理后 ,绝不会被外物影响的八臂神猿。”
