Natty r uns aw ay from the guardian she wa s left w ith to follo w Dad. She befriends and is befriended by a wolf that has been abused in d og fights, h ops a freig ht train west, and is pr esumed dead when her wallet is found aft er the train crashes. Dad gets bitter and endangers hims elf in his new job.
