Natty runs away from the guardian she wa s le ft wit h to follow Dad. She befriend s and is befriended by a wolf that has been abused in d og fi ghts, hops a freight train we st, and is presumed dea d wh en her wallet is found after the train crashes. Dad gets bitter and endangers himself in his new j ob.
