Set in both the late 80's and current day, &q uot; Back in t he Da y&qu ot; is a gritty tale abo ut Anthony Rodriguez (William DeMeo), a half Italian - ha lf Puerto Rican youn g teenager g rowin g up on th e streets of Bensonhu rst, Brooklyn; a the n very da ngerous and racist neighborhood filled with bullies, big shots and social clubs where all of th e neig hborhood shots were ca lled. Antho ny had to endure an ab usive, unemployed, alc oholic father but wa s blessed with a nurturing, hard -workin g mother who he lose s at a ve ry early age and is devastated by it. In sp ite of his bitterness, h e struggl es to uphold the moral s his Mothe r taug ht him and retain his dignity in spite of bei ng up against all odds. He is taken under the wing of a loca l mob boss, Enzo DeVin o (Michael Madsen), who s upports Anthony' s wishes to esc ape his demo ns through the sport of b oxing.
