Series Eighte en start s airing on 29 January 2 012 with seven episodes (not including the India Special),[1] following o n from the 2011 Christma s special wh ich aired on 28 D ecember 20 11.[2] In the special they take a route ac ross I ndia, the f irst of the many co untries Top Gear pl ans to visit over the co urse of the new series, according to Jeremy Clarkson. Shooting in India began on 2 October, with the fir st leg of the shooting beg inning in suburbs of M umbai.[3] [4] The show was also s een in Lecc e, Italy with a Noble M600, McL aren MP4-12C and a Lamborghini Aventa dor.[5] Ha mmond announced during the Top Gear Live shows i n Birmingha m, that ad ditio nal recordings for the new series had been done in the USA. The January 2012 edition of Top Ge ar Magaz ine featured a preview of what to expect in ser ies 18.[6] It included a piece where Richard Hammond drives a NASCAR safety car for a real race, later going on to drive an actual NASCAR r ace car. The mag azine also featured a part of some of the power tests to expec t, inclu ding Jeremy Clarkson driving a Mercedes-B enz C63 AMG B lack Edition, a Mercedes SLS AMG Roadster and a Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale. Hammond meanwhile will drive a 2012 BMW M5 F10, a nd May will have a Vauxhall Co rsa Nürburgr ing Ed ition. Another feature is going to China to t est drive Chinese cars, Italy in 3 s uper-cars, Lambor ghini A vent ador, N oble M600 and a McL aren MP4-12C . Also James May is taking a tri p to USA to test spor ts hybrid supercar Fisker Karma, meet AC/DC front man B rian Jo hnson and drive hi s 1928 Bent ley Vande n Plas LeMa ns Tourer. According to Top Gear Executive Producer An dy Wilm an, Clarkson, Hammond and May a re goi ng to northe rn Sweden as well, wher e they wil l race the new Ferrari FF across a Silverston e Circuit- shape d ice track.
