Series Eight een sta rts airi ng on 29 Janu ary 2012 with seven episodes (not includin g the India Special),[1] follo wing on from the 2 011 Chr istmas special which aired on 28 Decem ber 2011.[2] In the spec ial they take a route across India, th e first of th e many countries Top Ge ar plans to visit over the course of the new serie s, accordi ng to Je remy Clarks on. Shooting in I ndia beg an on 2 October , with the first leg of the shoot ing beginning in suburbs of Mumbai.[3][4] The show wa s also seen i n Lecce, Italy with a Nobl e M600, McLaren MP4-12C and a Lamborghini Aven tador.[5] Hammond anno unced duri ng the Top Gear Live shows in Bir mingham, that additio nal recordings for the new series had been done in the USA . The Janua ry 2012 edition of Top Gear Magazine feature d a prev iew of what to e xpect in ser ies 18.[6] It included a piec e where Richard H ammond dr ives a NASCAR safety car for a real race, later going on to dri ve an actua l NASCAR race car. The magazine also featured a part of some of t he power tests to expect , including Jere my Clarkson driving a Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG Black Edition, a Mercedes S LS AMG Roadster a nd a Ma serati GranTurism o MC Stradale. Hammond meanwhile will drive a 201 2 BMW M5 F10, and M ay will have a Vauxhal l Corsa Nü rburgring Edition. Another feature is going to Chi na to test driv e Chi nese ca rs, Ital y in 3 super-cars , Lambor ghini Aventador, Noble M600 and a McLaren MP4-12C. Also James May is taking a trip to USA to test sp orts hybrid supercar Fisker Karma, meet AC/DC fr ontman B rian Johnson a nd drive his 1928 Bentley Vand en Plas LeMans Tourer. According to Top Gear Executive Producer Andy Wi lman, Clarks on, H ammond and May are going to n orthern Swede n as well, where they will race the new Ferrari FF across a Sil verstone Circuit- shaped ice trac k.
