It i s more memorable than Julien Duviv ier 9;s earlier silent version of 1925, also name d Poil de Carotte. The part of Poil de Ca rotte was pl ayed by 11 y ear old Robert Lynen, who was alleged to have b een discovered whils t wal king down th e Champs- Elys ées in P aris. Lynen is totall y ca ptivati ng and th e film made him an instant star, launching what looked lik e bec oming a very promi sing film ca reer – until he was shot d ead whilst fighting against the Germans in 1944.
