In this notorious N azi p ropaganda historical costume melodrama, a conniving , ambiti ous Jew ish businessman, Suess Oppenheimer, snares a post as trea surer to the Duke of Wurttemburg by shower ing the corr upt d uke with treasure and promises of even greater rich es. As the Jew' ;s schemes grow more el aborate an d his ac tions more brazen, the dukedom nearly erupts into civil war. Persuaded by t he Jew, the Duke all b ut scuttle s the constitution and alienates the assembly b y lifting the local ban on Jews in Stut tgart. In a final outrag e, the Jew rapes a w holesom e German girl and tor tures her fat her and fiancee. When the Duke suc cumbs to a sudden heart attack, the assembly of El ders try th e Jew a nd sentence him to de ath for hav ing "carnal knowledge of a Christian w oman."
