Also known as Re d Riding Hood, Year 2000, this Hung arian/Canadian co-pr oduction is not for children. Director Marta Meszaros again dwells upon the travails of women trapped in oppressive s ociety. This time, t he Red Riding Hood legen d is use d me taphorically within the fr amework of a quasi-futuristic st oryline. The &qu ot;wolves& quot; are of the human variety, and "friendly hunte rs" few and far betwee n. This is a weird and sometimes disturbing take-o ff on the beloved fairy t ale. In this one , the m ain girl is far more whiny and petulant. She has a boyfrien d (who is somehow able t o come a nd go into the f orest from the city with no visible means of transport) and she is able to communicate telep athically with the wolf. Ther e is a su b-plot about the girl& #39;s divo rced parents which does n't really make sense and t he film features a very odd development to wards the end. The forest scenery is gorgeous and the film is prof essionally made but it 9;s hard to tell if this was made for kids or not as it contains so many o dd and questiona ble elements.
