Why for so many years, se emingly since it's releas e in 1933, this film va nished fro m the fac e of the earth. After seeing it, courtesy of the efforts of Mr. Wade Williams Co., I'm st ill puzzled, but I ha ve a theory. In 193 3, the code was enacted that pretty much took car e of sex and vio lence in Hollywo od. While not an explic it film by any means, Deluge does deal fairly frankly w ith sexua lity, lust and rape. I wonder if RKO d iscovered they had a film that they could n ot re-re lease, much lik e th e fabled lost Warner Bros. comedy Con vention Ci ty. It's a shame for, while it is a dated fil m, I find it quite unique and surprising for it's era and a fairly successful att empt t o create s omething diff erent in an era w hen films were already beco ming cookie cutter by-pr oducts of the stud io machine (not that many of thos e cookies aren't t asty, m ind you). And eve n though the only avai lable copy at this writi ng is dub bed i nto Italian, I don't find that a hindera nce.
