This 19 92 Japane se film tell s the story of a scientist who se ts out to create the new "s uper Adam and Eve", humans who cannot be controlled by their emotions. Of course, the end result i t not exactl y what the good doctor e xpects.< br/> comments from imdb: This moder n tale of an attempt to build a creature i s one of the best " ;horror&q uot; films eve r made, eve n if its not a hor ror film bu t somethin g else entirely. Certainly i ts on my short list o f all t ime gre at films. This film was introd uced t o me by some one who told me &q uot;I h ave th is film that prob ably one of the be st films you& #39;ll ever see . It will mo ve you and touch you and m ake you th ink, but if I told you wha t it is and told you how its done you will think its the stupidest thing on the face of it and you won' ;t wa tch it.&quo t; Intrigued I asked what did he mea n, and he said, " ;Well its a Frankenstein story, with a ver y goofy sort of edge, but which uses it to its advantage.& quot ; My ears perked up, an d I being a trusting so ul too k the tape and watched it. I was blown away. The plot concerns a m ad sc ientist attempting to make a n ew Ad am and Eve in the wake of a s uicidal plague that is ravag ing the worl d. L ocked up in his la b his exp eriment s go differently then either he or we expect. Some of it i s silly (The bolt s in the neck, the wrestling mov es...), all of it is touching an d thought pro voking. I can not recommen d this movie enoug h. If you are willin g to take the film on its te rms and allow it to tell its story then I u rge you to seek this film out and see it. Thi s is an undiscovered gem that wil l stay wi th you forever. 15 out of 10 and then some. 10/10 Al so known as "The Last Frankenst ein", th is is an ex trao rdinary , impeccably prod uced horror film . Direct or Takeshi Ka wamura uses Mary Shelley's novel as a me re launch ing pad for an exploration o f subjects as dive rse and fas cina ting as the nature of love, desire, suicide, mass hypnosis, sex, alienati on and jealousy. And thou gh the fil m is dense with subt ext, it is also stu nningly photographed and rich in atmosphere and detail. The performances are all am azing and Kawamura& #39; s sensitive handling of the strange , delicate relationsh ips between th e characters resu lts in an emotionally cha rged, angst-ridden tragedy. The scenes of the confused, troubled monster hurtling throu gh a fog-shrouded fo rest at night a re memorable and stri king, as is a br illiant home movie-style montage of the film's more curious characters en joying a pr ecious afternoon at the beach . Kawamur a creates resonating visua l po etry of horror and sadne ss bare ly sighted since Todd Browning's c lassic "Freaks".
