Based on one o f the maj or l iterary texts survive d from th e Mid dle Kingdom, the classical per iod of Egyptian literature, T he Eloq uent Peasant is a com bination of a mora lity/folk tale and a poem. The eve nts are set between 2 160 and 2025 BC. Wh en the pea sant Khun-anup and his donkey stumble upon the lands o f the no ble R ensi, the peasant’s goods are confiscated and he’s unjustly accused of theft. The peasant petitions Rens i who is so taken by the peasa nt’s eloquence that he report his astonishing discovery to th e king. The king realises t he peasant has been wron ged but delays judgement so as to he ca n hear mor e of his eloq uence.
