Other promine nt plotlines include Con gressional investigations into whether Bartlet committed el ector al fraud by conc ealing his MS, a death threat against C.J. and the ensuing relationship she develops w ith a Secret Service ag ent assigned t o her, the Qumari defense minister Ab dul Shareef plot ting t errorist atta cks against the US, and a troubl ing meeting be tween Toby and the President that leaves Bartlet with a bout of insomnia in &qu ot;Night Five." The season finale, "Pos se Comitatus" closes seve ral of these storylines as Bartlet m eets his opponent in the elections and reaff irms his commitme nt to beat hi m. The episode ends with the presi dent finally deci ding to order Share ef's ass assination (a legally qu estiona ble act) and C.J. 9;s agent's murder, j ust afte r the man thre ateni ng C.J. was caught. From a c ritic al pers pective, series creator Aa ron Sorkin acknowledged in October 2002 th at the terrorism-related plots designed to k eep the series relevant after the real-life 9/11 atta cks were awkward at ti mes, saying &q uot;from w eek to week , you felt like you were writi ng the show handcuffe d, a little bit. I d idn' ;t know how to write it anymore. It was a constant s earch for what I wasn't doing that use d to mak e the s how work. [...] Maybe there was a way to make it work; there p robably was. I wasn';t able to find it in twenty-two episodes."
