The man died s oon after his return home after attendi ng a servi ce at th e local spiritual ist church, itself the source of s ome con troversy in the villag e. As the investigat ion progr esses, the police lea rn that Pennyman was generally disliked. Former employees, bu siness partn ers and o thers all h ad a grudge against hi m of one sort o r another .
