A vi olinist in a provi ncial Polish orchestra, whose husban d is the dir ector of the ensemble, on a visit to the US ties up with the world- renowned symphony conductor. As it turns out he was once in love with viol inist&# 39;s mother. The conduc tor, a slightly unstable hypocho ndriac, returns to Poland to lead the provincial orchestra. He also tri es to rev ive old love affair using the vi olinist as a surrogate of her mo ther.
