Though several actors portray Elvis Presley at different stages o f his life, this documentary is comprised mostl y of actual perf ormance footage a nd interviews with Elvis, his fans and those close to him. His arrival on the national sc ene ,in 1956, is highlighted by clips from "Stage Show&q uot;, "The Milton Berle Show" ; and & quot;The Ed Sullivan Show& quot;. Scenes fr om several of his 33 f ilms are highlighted incl uding his s creen deb ut in &q uot;Love Me Tender" (1 956) a nd t he criti cally a cclai med "Ki ng "Creole" ;(1958), his last fi lm prior to a 2 year hit ch in the m ilitary. From 1960-68 he kept busy by making films and soundtrack albums, as well as s ome Gospal albums. After an absence of almost 9 yea rs from live perfo rming, Elvis returned in 1968 to do a TV Special titled " ;Elvis" and i n 1969 perf ormed in Las Vegas for the first time since 1 956. His Vegas appeara nces, along with his nation wide concert tours, continued for t he remainder o f his career. A clip fro m his 1973 TV Special,"Elvis Aloa&qu ot;, is featured.
