The workers of a s elf-mana ged tea factory decide to go against the g rain and play by their own ru les. The p roblem is, how can you plan, work and survive in a world driven by ruthless compe tition? One day at a time, for instance. In a w orld rul ed by profit and dominated by the exploitation of the weake r ones, the film literally off ers an alternative se t of w ays about h ow to th ink our futu re and the means and tools to work for it. It is not an easy job but, a s Taste of Hope carefully and pr ecisely shows, there is still a lot that can b e done if we change our relations hip to produ ction and labor. I nstead o f making grand ges tures or po litical statements , the filmmaker works with the camera and with a thoughtful edit ing in order to understand how to weav e together new p ossibilities of communal existence. The resu lt is a superbly cra fted observational exercise. A little manual of self-defen se and resistance in the face of a neoliberalism t hat wi shes for wo rkers to keep the ir heads down.
